Streetbank is a new website that aims to help build community and make the world a little bit nicer.
The site allows people to lend and give away items and also request and receive items from a sort of community pot (or bank hence Streetbank). What you do is you sign up with your postcode, then add something that you would be able to contribute. This could be something small, like a book or DVD you would lend out, or something larger. Then it shows you all the other people living within one mile of you and all their things.
The idea is to make a community attic. My friend had the idea when he borrowed a pint of milk from his neighbour. Then they borrowed some biscuits, they shared their wifi, he lent them an old laptop and in the end they all became great friends and took down the wall between their gardens.
It’s doing really well in Hammersmith where my friend Sam lives, and has really brought people together there. It would be really great if it could become as popular down here in Brighton. The site is called www.streetbank.com. Its all free and done for the love of it, and you can try a demo before you sign up to see if you like it.
I really hope you have a go, all the best,
Nic (from Highcroft Villas)
